Can I upgrade the trial licence?
In June, 2006, ESET changed the way trial versions of NOD32 for Microsoft Windows function so they can be directly updated to the registered versions available to licensed users by entering the Username and Password sent with each order confirmation email. Licensed users may also download registered versions of NOD32 from the Registered Users' Download Page .

What do I receive with my NOD32 licence?
Licenses for NOD32 provide signature updates to detect new computer viruses, worms and other threats, software updates to add features and fix problems and technical support. Licenses can be purchased for most products for one, two or three years.
When a license expires, you may continue to use the software, however, you will not be able download signature or program updates, nor will you be able to request technical support.
The trial version of NOD32 operates for thirty (30) days, during which time it downloads signature updates just like the licensed version. Trial versions of NOD32 do not download program updates. At the end of the trial period, the program will stop downloading updates. It is important for anti-virus programs to receive updates in order to maintain detection capabilities.

The version number of the currently installed virus signature database appears in the status window of all NOD32 modules as well as among NOD32 System information. If your NOD32 is out-dated, a pop-up notification window will appear at NOD32's startup. To make sure you have the most current version installed, visit our website www.Yellowbussecurity.co.uk and compare the version number provided by your NOD32 with that listed on the website.
Alternatively, you can connect to the Internet and press the Update now button manually. NOD32 will subsequently be updated to the most current version, or you will get a message that your NOD32 is up to date.

Is NOD32 compatible with windows vista?
Yes, beginning with v2.7, NOD32 is compatible with both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows Vista. NOD32 does not make changes or modifications to the kernel (the core of the operating system) in order to work under Windows Vista, so it is compatible with PatchGuard, Microsoft's technology to prevent the kernel from being modified under 64-bit versions of Windows.
After it has been installed, NOD32 appears in the Malware Protection section of the Windows Security Center in Windows Vista, just as it does under earlier versions of Windows.
ESET is currently in the process of applying for a "Certified for Vista" compatibility logo.
What is Anti-Stealth?
Anti-Stealth is the technology used by NOD32 to bypass the techniques used by rootkits to mask processes and files from being detected using conventional means. Anti-Stealth is integrated into NOD32 and allows the On-Demand Scanner and Access Monitor (AMON) modules to detect objects hidden by rootkits even when their presence has been hidden from the operating system. By default, Anti-Stealth is enabled in NOD32 and is used automatically by the modules which require it.
What notifications are displayed by Anti-Stealth?
Listed below are the new messages displayed by NOD32 v2.7's Anti-Stealth technology. Please note that seeing one of these messages does not necessarily indicate a problem. Some of these are status messages and it is normal to seem them during operation.
Message: "Anti-Stealth technology is enabled."
Reason: This message is displayed when the NOD32 On-Demand Scanner is using Anti-Stealth technology.
Steps to troubleshoot: None. It is normal for NOD32 to display this message.
Message: "Anti-Stealth initialization could not be fully completed. Anti-Stealth technology is working in limited mode."
Reason: Under Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, Server 2003 and Vista, this message is displayed if the NOD32 On-Demand Scanner is started from an account with restricted privileges or the operating system is started in Safe Mode. In order to operate correctly, NOD32's anti-stealth technology must run from an account with SYSTEM privileges and operating system started in a normal fashion.
Steps to troubleshoot: For Windows NT, 2000, XP, Server 2003 and Vista, reinstall NOD32 from an Administrator account and then re-run the scan.
NOTE: If NOD32 is run in a virtual environment or used in conjunction with security tools designed to quarantine, sandbox or otherwise virtualize access to the operating environment then warning messages may be displayed saying the Anti-Stealth technology cannot be initialized. This is normal behavior for NOD32 when used in conjunction with these types of programs.
